Two thumbs up to Bakus creator Marc Pichette, a self-taught illustrator and designer. A French guy from Montreal, Marc says "I did these fonts just for fun because I'm not really a type designer. But I do like the discipline and patience it requires." Inspired by the black letter type in wood cuts by Albrecht Durer, Pichette created a stylish new black letter font with crisp geometric construction.
It's a clever optical illusion to look at Bakus, because when you see it large, the vectors are all crisp and sharp, but when you see it at smaller sizes it seems blurry and soft, as if it work affected by an overinked printing press. And why is it called Bakus? No one knows.
Crisp and clean, with an old-school goth flair, Bakus is a gem of a free font, despite the omitted capitals. If you like this, feel free to drop an e-mail to Marc and tell him "nice job!" Enjoy this font and use it often.
