Brubeck's Cube Italic
A charming and child-like, block-headed nature has made Brubecks Cube one of Chank's most popular fonts of recent years. Here's the next font in the family, a complicated little hand-drawn block font, Brubecks Cube Italic.
Like the prior upright "Cube" version, this new rhomboidic variant contains a lot of human, artistic charm. It's also got a casual mix of uppercase and lowercase letters in the lowercase slots. It's blocky, chocky and pleasing, like the original, but now with an added sense of urgency implied by the jaunty slant.
It works pretty good as simple black and white, but it's more fun to use the full, tri-color, 3D effect as you see it above. It just takes a bit of work with a magic wand. You can type up some words in Photoshop, use the magic wand on your text layer to select the areas that should be the fills, then fill in those areas in a new, separate "fills" layer. Repeat with the shadowed areas, creating a new layer for "shadows". Make sure to put the text layer on top.
***Adding the color is probably the last step you should take in designing with this ornate display font; make sure you've got all your text proofed, set and kerned before applying color layers.***
ADVANCED OPENTYPE FEATURES: Stylistic Sets #2 & 3 can be used as overlapping text blocks to create "Fills" and "Shadows" layers (only works in InDesign CS). Stylistic Set #1 doesn't have the fills, but it does have a more literal set of lowercase letters with ascenders and descender (also only works in InDesign).
It's all a bit complicated, but it's worth it to make a nice strong impression. Special introductory sale price today!
